Stine Racing's Matt Carter takes 2nd in ARCA season-ending nail-biter

ADEL, IOWA — October 23, 2008

Wraps up season third in points, tied for SunTrust Rookie of the Year

Matt Carter, driver of the Clement Racing #46 Stine LibertyLink Soybeans Ford Fusion, took a very close second place at the ARCA season's final race in Toledo, Ohio. After leading the race late, rookie driver Carter came in just seconds behind series champion and six-year ARCA veteran, Justin Allgier. Toledo marked Allgier's first series championship.

In his first season of ARCA racing, Carter finished an impressive third in the points race, coming in just 85 points under Allgier in one of the tightest points races in more than 25 years. Long-time ARCA series champ, Frank Kimmel, with nine championships under his belt, came in second in the point standings.

Carter's statistics are impressive: one win, eight top-five wins and 14 top-10 wins; most laps of any driver during the season and he is currently tied for SunTrust Rookie of the Year honors with Team Red Bull driver, Scott Speed. The winner will be decided by a vote of the competition committee. Carter also completed the most laps of any driver in the 2008 ARCA series.

"The team did a great job preparing the cars at all the tracks, most of which we had never seen before," says Carter. "To lead the points and finish third as a rookie is an accomplishment that our team is proud of. I want to thank Larry Clement for the opportunity to drive the #46 Stine LibertyLink Ford, and our sponsors and partners who made our success possible."

For Stine Seed Company, 2008 turned out to be a great rookie year as a sponsor, as well. "Developing the Stine Racing program has been quite a whirlwind of excitement this year," says David Thompson, National Sales and Marketing Director for Stine Seed Company. "The Clement Racing team has done an outstanding job of showcasing Stine Seed and LibertyLink soybeans to the racing public across the country and hundreds of our valued customers have truly enjoyed the thrill of ARCA racing first hand at one of our sponsored events.

"In fact, the Stine Racing simulator car has put on nearly as many miles the ARCA car this year, visiting farm shows and plot days across the corn belt," he adds. "Thousands of Stine customers and growers have been able to experience the thrill of racing  - at least as close as it comes to being on the track. There was always a line to drive the simulator car!

"Matt and the team have raced their hearts out this past year, keeping the Stine LibertyLink Soybean car out in the front of the pack and very prominent in televised broadcasts," Thompson notes. "The exposure for our brand was tremendous - in fact, there were times when Matt's on-car cameras were used almost exclusively to show the race action on national TV."

Larry Clement, owner of Clement Racing, is also pleased with the first outing of this rookie ARCA team. "Matt did an outstanding job," Clement says. "For a rookie driver and new team running different cars and tires, at tracks they've never seen, it's extremely difficult.

"Not only did Matt finish third in points, he completed the most laps of any driver. I don't ever remember a rookie doing that. He also extended the race-winning streak of the #46 car to 15 seasons, while finishing as the highest rookie in what was clearly the most talented rookie class in my 15 years in the series. The competition from top to bottom was the toughest we've encountered."

Travis Carter, Clement Racing crew chief and veteran NASCAR owner, says this was an overall good season although, looking back, there were missed opportunities.

"This is the time when you can see how much difference just a few points can make in the outcome of a season," he says. "If just a couple of things had gone our way earlier in the season we would have had a different outcome. But then, they could have gone the other way, too.

"It just goes to show that you have to be on you're A-game all the time, no matter the series," he says. "It seems like the people who make the fewest mistakes are the ones that come out on top and we'll have to make fewer mistakes if we're going to win this next year.

"We did a lot of good things this year and there were a few things we could have done better. We learned a lot, that's for sure, and we're thankful for how well the year has turned out and we're looking forward to next year," he adds.
